First impressions

Blue tit in the garden (iso 800, large crop)

So the first results of my new 5DmkII. I’m still really impressed by the camera. It feels solid, it sounds solid and, more important, it makes impressive pictures and movies.

I sat down in the garden for a while near a bird feeder to capture some birds. The conditions were really bad (low light, rain) and normally I wouldn’t consider going out now, but with a new camera… I put my camera on 800 iso and later even on 1600 iso. Back home I saw some noise, but the levels were definitely acceptable. Of course I missed the cropfactor, but back at the computer I had that many pixels (21M) that I could easily crop half of the picture and still have more as enough for any reasonable purpose.

Apart from taking some pictures I was also very eager to try the movie-function of the camera. This also works really nice (I think even better under these conditions). My first movie impression can be seen here (on youtube).
