One of my traditional first spring projects are the Mining Bees in Appelbergen. Being a real spring species, the start just before the first dragonflies appear, it is a very nice subject to start the warmer season with. These bees are colonial and they dig holes in the ground. This makes it also very hard to take good pictures as they are most of the time sitting in the sand. Yesterday was the first time this spring I had a little time to check on them. There were only few present (I think the majority still has to come), which made it even harder to take good pictures. Out of the 72 pictures I took, I saved only 3…. This is the best one, it gives a nice impression of the bee in its natural surroundings. But there is still a lot of room for improvement. Next weekend I’ll be back!
