
For me the most important target for the trip to Heligoland were the seals on the nearby island of Dune. On this small island there is a colony of seals (both Harbour/Common and Grey) that is quite tame. Hauling out on the beach, fighting in the surf or swimming in sea, they are very nice photography subjects.
This young seal was laying alone on the beach when a small sandstorm started. By taking a low point of view I could take this picture with the blur of the sand, but with the seal still in focus. After this picture it was really time to clean the camera…
