Banded Demoiselle on a Yellow Waterlilly

Of all commercially kinds of photography, wedding photography is one of the more lucrative kinds. On the other hand, it’s also a difficult one: you have one day, one moment where everything has to be good. You can’t ask them to do it all again… And that beautiful white dress in bright sunlight….. One of the reasons I don’t feel confident enough (yet) to be the official photographer on a wedding.

However, if I attend a wedding I will bring my camera and try to add something. Yesterday I was at such a wedding. When the official part was over and the dinner hadn’t started yet, there was a little time off. Enough time for me to get rid of the nice clothes and jump into the stream next to the wedding location. Here several Banded Demoiselles were flying around and sometimes using a flower of a Yellow Waterlilly as a high viewpoint to defend their territory. With my tripod in the water just above the waterline, I managed to place the demoiselle in its environment (even though the picture was taken with a 70-200mm lens with a 2x converter). A nice interruption of a really nice day.
