Earlier this week I wrote about the footpath made for dragonfly enthusiasts to see the Dark Whiteface. This is one of the pictures I made the last weekend of this species. The Dark Whiteface is one of the rarest dragonflies in the Netherlands. In the past century there have only been few scattered observations, with no confirmed reproduction since the 1960’s. Great surprise in 2005 when a population was found in the Delleboersterheide, Friesland. First in a closed location, in 2008 I visited the place during an excursion and now accessible for everybody with the footbridge. It’s still difficult to take good pictures, there are many places where the dragonflies can sit, most of them have a very busy background, but it’s great to be able to see this species again.
