Every birder who comes to the Arctic has a few species he really wants to see. Normally the Ivory and Sabine’s Gull are high on that list. The former often isn’t that hard to find, but Sabine’s Gull isn’t the most common bird on the island. There are a few places where they breed, the most accessible is on Moffen Island. However you have to stay at least 300m distance and the Sabine’s Gulls are often even further away. This means you often need a telescope to find them. To my great surprise I saw one flying right in front of the ship this time. A quick picture and it was gone again.
