Tough little birds

Brunnich's Guillemot near Alkefjellet

The Arctic isn’t always a fun place to be. Not in winter of course, but also regularly in summer. It can be cold, windy and sometimes it rains or snows with that. As a tourist (or a guide) you can hide indoors or put on some more clothes. But  if you’re a bird or a mammal you’ve got to work with what you’ve got. These Brunnich’s Guillemots can only dive in the water to get away from the winds or rain. However that water is also near freezing. But still they survive. Not only in summer, but also during the autumn storms when the dads have to swim with their chicks in search for food…. Really impressive, in my opinion.
