Showing off

Kittiwake

Sometimes animals do exactly as you want. Young Kittiwakes have a very distinctive black W pattern on their upper wings. Normally when they fly by you can’t see this, because you’re looking at their sides. This bird however wanted to show off and spread his wings just long enough for me to take this picture. I would have preferred a little bit more water underneath, but you can’t have it all with flight pictures.

  • I love this photo. I just did a blog about snorkeling over the sunken ship USS Kittiwake in Grand Cayman, and put a link to your blog where I mentioned the name Kittiwake coming from a type of seagull.
