The problem with this office is that the office hours are flexible and can get quite long. When we entered Heleysundet we saw a mother and two young cubs (born last winter) walking towards our anchorage. When we were at anchor we couldn’t see them and I was about to go to bed, when they were seen again. Still far away and I started to brush my teeth. When I was finished with this somebody called out that the bears were really close now. Of all the places where they could stay, they picked the shore closest to the ship to spent the night… The mother had smelled something there and wanted to find out what. She told her cubs to sit still while she checked it out. It turned out to be quite complicated as she spent a lot of time watching the snow edge where she had smelled something. After a while she dove under the snow and disappeared (also for the cubs). Both we as the cubs were patiently waiting for her to return, but this took quite some time. After a while the cubs started calling out for her and she came back up, without anything to eat. At 3:30 am I decided to end my day at the office and finally went to bed (some of the guests stayed up all night). Quite a strange feeling, knowing there are three Polar Bears just 50m away from you…
Ah well, this was just another day at the office for me… I hope you like your office as much as I like mine.
What a lovely image… Such patience and attentiveness to momma.
