During those days in the ice the task for the expedition team (the guides) is always to find wildlife. Bears, walruses, birds, whales… This means staring through your binoculars for the largest part of the day. I must say that the new Eden Quality binoculars I had to test really were up for their job and did very well! Somewhere during the morning I was standing next to a British birdwatcher who said “What is swimming next to that ice floe? Ah, it’s probably nothing…” Well, nothing turned out to be a Polar Bear! Who after a while came out of the water and walked nicely around on the pack ice. It was still foggy (as you can see in the picture), but I think that added really to the atmosphere.
