Even though one cannot see the bird cliff in this picture, it could still be obvious that this picture is taken near one. First of all one sees the rich vegetation, in this case of Scurvy Grass. This rich vegetation can only grow here because of the fertilization by birds. Secondly there is an Arctic Fox on the picture. In summer these foxes are often connected to bird cliffs as well.
Normally Arctic Foxes on Spitsbergen are pure white in winter and brownish in summer, in both cases very well camouflaged. This fox however was somehow a mixture between those two. It had still quite some white fur, but also a bit of grey. Most likely this is a young fox, as they quite often don’t really change their winter fur.
