Surprises

Arctic Fox on Iceland
Arctic Fox on Iceland

Sometimes you find thing you’d never expected. I knew there were Arctic Foxes on Iceland, even the (for me) rare blue morph, but I never really expected to see them. One night, when I was standing outside searching for the Aurora (without success), I suddenly heard an Arctic Fox calling! Always a great sound and I even managed to record a little bit. This meant there was at least some chance to see (and photograph) them! So the next evening I asked the woman in the restaurant what the best place would be to see and photograph Arctic Foxes around here. The surprising answer was “Tomorrow morning, between 9 and 10, in front of the door here”… Never expecting that answer, we decided to be there, shortly after sunrise (at 9:15). And indeed, there he was… Right in front of the door…

It turned out her parents had been shot last year and the woman had raised her with her brother. Now this one was living in the wild (her brother had died), but showed up every morning to get some food scraps. Fortunately I could also take some pictures in a more natural setting.
