One of the reasons for me to be a guide is that I like to share my experiences and passion for polar areas with others. One of the most intense experiences, in my opinion, is to spent a day in the pack ice. With the changing climate it’s getting harder and harder to find this ice, but we always manage to find some ice somewhere. This cruise it was a bit foggy. On one hand this adds to the experience as the whole world is greyish blue, without a clear horizon. On the other hand does it make my work a lot tougher as one of the highlights of a day like that is to find a Polar Bear in its natural habitat. With the fog the area we can scout is a lot smaller, reducing the chances to find a bear… Here a picture that conveys the mood pretty well, in my opinion.
