
The chicks were about two weeks old, making a nice snack for the bear. And with about 100.000 breeding pairs, there are enough of those snacks to keep him fed for a while. Although, despite all the climbing skills of this bear most of them will be out of reach for him. Here the bear has just cleaned out the first ledge and discovered a new one, with the last parents fleeing again…

The agility of the polar bear is amazing. I tend to think of bears as lumbering around, but can see that my preconceived ideas are all wrong. This whole series of shots has been absolutely stunning.
