Great news for the whales this week. Well, news… Everybody had doubts already, but now the International Court of Justice confirmed: the Japanese whaling program is not scientific! Their scientific program started in 2005 and in those years they killed 3.600 (Antarctic) Minke Whales. In the same period only 2 scientific papers were published in peer-reviewed scientific magazines… As a result of this ruling Japan decided not to sent its whaling fleet to Antarctic waters the upcoming season. This would mean that, for the first time in 110 years there will be no whaling activities in Antarctic waters.
Good news I’d say! Now lets hope Iceland and Norway will follow soon and we can ban hunting on these magnificent animals altogether soon.
