Late at night, after midnight already, I’m sitting alone on deck. Nearly all guests are in bed already. I can’t, it’s still too nice outside. Spectacular light from the midnight sun, several Polar Bears around the ship, Ivory and Glaucous Gulls and of cause just being in the ice. This is why I love the Arctic.
Sitting on deck, listening to music, I put my camera away and just watch and enjoy. Thinking back to one of my best days in the Arctic, I almost get emotional. Sometimes I have to pick up my camera and take a few shots, adding to the 1000s I’ve already taken today. But it’s soo beautiful… But mainly I just sit there and enjoy. Something photographers sometimes forget. Taking pictures is a great hobby (or job), but we should not forget to enjoy the scene we’re working in. Soon I have to leave and go to bed as well, but for now I just want to enjoy the high north.
At that moment one more bear shows up and wanders over the ice towards the kill. His path leads him past the ship giving me one more time a good look at these magnificent animals. For me it’s a sort of farewell to a spectacular day.
Awesome blog!
