Berlin has a lot of recent history. The second world war and the Berlin Wal being the most famous. For me, it was really nice to see those remains for the first time. One of the things that made a big impression on me was an old Stasi Prison. Hidden in one of the outskirts of Berlin, a white spot on the map, only a few people knew what was happening down there… After the collapse of the Wall in 1989, the prison opened and now we could have a look inside… The prison consisted of two parts, an old and a new part. This corridor was in the basement of the old prison, the most primitive and harsh part. Small cells with up to 10 prisoners with only a wooden bed. During the day they were not allowed to sleep, interrogations often took place during the night…
In this image I reduced saturation and vibrancy a bit, to create a cold, moody atmosphere, more reminiscent of this place.
So depressing and horrible. I guess that makes it a great photograph.
