Spectators chasing Team Brunel
Spectators chasing Team Brunel

Even though there were seven yachts leaving Scheveningen (yes, even Team Vestas Wind was present again after running aground in leg 2), the departure of the Dutch Team Brunel was by far the most important event of the day for most people. Especially for all people who were out at sea in small boats, RIB’s, sailing vessels. They were all told to make a bit of space in front of the harbour and when a boat made its way out to sea, they could all follow it for a while. When Team Brunel started, it became even more hectic. Every object that could float and hold a person seemed to chase the racing yacht. Even two Optimists joined the chase, a bit optimistic I would say…

Team Brunel left in fourth place, but managed to overtake both Mapfre as Dongfeng racing, securing the second place in the leg to Gothenburg and with that, also the second place in the overall ranking.
