I’ve just returned from a week onboard of the sailing vessel the Noorderlicht sailing through Isfjord and Belsund. Really late in the season and a completely different experience as in summer. First of all there is a lot less sunlight. At the end of the trip, we couldn’t really go ashore before 10 am, as it was still too dark, especially when it was overcast. And we had to be back on the ship around 3.30pm, for the same reason. All in all not too much time to spent ashore. Secondly, it was a lot colder and there was a lot more snow.
But this also meant it felt a lot more Arctic. A strong wind, snow gave even more the feeling of an Arctic expedition as usual. For me it was a new experience, but definitely one I like to repeat.
