Spot the difference

Northern and Southern Giant Petrel

In this picture you see both giant petrels next to each other. The difference between the two species is really small. Both about the same 2 meters wingspan, both very variable in colour (so no, you can’t say Northern are white and Southern brown…). The only real difference is the colour of the bill tip: green in Southern, red in Northern. Fortunately they got a pretty big bill, so this tip is not that hard to see…
