Early June is the beginning of spring on Spitsbergen. The ice melts in the fjords (if there was any) and birds start to breed as soon as the snow on the islands has melted. This also means that some birds are easier visible in this time as later in the year. Especially the beautiful male King Eider is a sought after species that gets more difficult later in the year. During a zodiac cruise around Andøyane we found several males waiting to start their breeding cycle.
For us a good opportunity to have a look at these really nice birds.
