In a previous post I already wrote about a young, curious reindeer who came and have a look at us. This trip we had a similar situation, but with a Polar Bear. We found a very young bear in the fog on Sundneset, Barentsøya. Possibly only 2.5 years old and just kicked out by mother she was in a reasonably good shape, especially for such a young bear stranded on land. But above all she was very curious. As soon as she saw us, she came down to the coastline, jumped into the water and swam towards us. Bears are very good swimmers, but they are usually a bit careful in the water as they are not very quick. This bear apparently didn’t mind and came fairly close to the ship to have a look.
After a while she decided it was not worth it and she swam back to the coast, trying to find other things to play with (or eat).
Nice tale. Hope the bear finds food.
