But not all father-son (or daughter) stories end well. Sometimes Glaucous Gulls arrive at the chick before the parents are there to defend it. Or some chicks don’t even make it to the water and are kicked from the air by the gulls.

Here an adult and a young Glaucous Gull were fighting over the chick. Or better, the adult was swallowing the whole chick at once, leaving the juvenile frustrated behind…
