Everywhere we go, we’re surrounded by sound. TV, radio, cell phones, cars, trains, people talking and so on. Rarely we come to places where we don’t hear any sounds. In the high Arctic this is different. Here the only human sounds you can hear are the ship (unfortunately Ortelius isn’t the quietest of ships) and the sound we make on shore. When we’re out of reach of the sound of the ship, I often ask people to sit down for a moment and enjoy the silence of nature. Only the sound of the wind, a calm sound of a small stream and every now and then a bird can be heard. I often hear that these moments are often one of the highlights of a trip. For me they definitely are.
Hej, I often remember when we joinend the Northern Lights above the Noorderlicht in the beginning with only four people. And it was totally quiet. That was one of the best moments of our trip.
