As said before, Walruses are doing great on Spitsbergen again. This means we can easily visit a haul out site every trip and show these interesting creatures to people. However, most of the time they don’t do a lot, while they’re laying on land. Every now and the one sticks up his head, pokes his neighbour and goes back to sleep.
When they’re in the water it’s a different story however. They are often curious and come and check you out. Especially if you stand in the water and kick around some stones like my colleague is doing here. They they often come towards you, even half out of the water to have a look. It makes you wonder, who is looking at who at moments like that…
Oh Arjen, this is spectacular. I have never seen this magnificent mammal in the wild, but your photos and description here are a true treat.
