Photography is derived from the Greek words “φωτός” (Photos) and γραφή (Grave), meaning drawing with light. Well, light we have a lot in the Arctic, in summer time 24h a day even. And the sun isn’t that high above the horizon, so the light isn’t that hard.
The effect of different light on a photo is best shown by these two pictures. Taken only a few minutes apart, but facing different directions. One facing more or less towards the sun (behind the clouds), the other one facing away from the sun.
Wonderful examples of the polar light, Arjen. So soft and mellow, very unlike our California light. Lovely post.
