For me, seeing a pod of Belugas is always special. Even though you don’t see that much it’s always very special to see this white, high Arctic whale species. Pictures normally don’t do this animal justice as you only see a little bit of white above the water. Movies show a little more, now I can also show the way they move through the water.
We haven’t seen many Beluga’s this season, but the previous trip we hit the jackpot. We saw a group of at least 80 individuals swim not that far from the ship. Everywhere you looked you saw these white backs graciously gliding through the water. Sometimes, against the light, the small blow was even visible. I took a few pictures, but quickly decided that I wanted to film this spectacle. I hope that you enjoy the movie I made of this special encounter.
