As a nature photographer, it’s often good to have a spotter. Someone who keeps an eye on what’s happening around you, while you’re focussed on taking pictures. This trip I got that help from a surprising corner. Where one day the captain called me to get me out of my cabin for an ice-filled bay, the next day he was pointing me towards the whales. While I was standing on the bow for a lower angle, he was on the bridge (where else…). From there, he had a much better overview and every now and then he would call me on the radio to point me towards new whales. It’s always a pleasure to work with a team like this.

So outstanding, this photo, Arjen. Breathtaking. Fortunate for you to have a spotter, and fortunate for us too.
