When the penguins are done breeding, they start moulting. Every penguin has to change their feathers. For birds, and especially penguins, their feathers are very important as they are their drysuit that keeps them dry and warm. During this, roughly four week period, the birds cannot go into the water to feed, and will just stay as still as possible to use as little energy as possible. During this time they look really scruffy and sad, but it’s a vital part of their yearly cycle. During this time we give them some extra space, to reduce possible disturbance even more.
