Another week, another Moment of Magic. In this case, I’d like to take you back to early June 2017 and explain a little how I make these movies. During this trip, we had several nice encounters and nice moments in the pack and fjord ice, with the highlight a bear walking along the shores of Hornsund. Another highlight was a bear seen from the zodiac walking on the fjord ice in front of a glacier, but as I had to drive my zodiac, there was no way for me to capture this on film (hence the photo’s in the back). I had finished the movie and was about to show it during recap just before dinner when we found a mother and two cubs on the ice that came close to the ship. The recap was postponed until after dinner, of course, and I started filming again.
Now, I had a problem. I knew I was going to show the movie after dinner (and give it to the passengers afterwards), but the most magical moment of the trip wasn’t in it. So I decided to have a very quick and short dinner and head back to my laptop and replace a few shots with the newly shot footage. Fortunately, I always work well while under pressure, so only two hours after we had seen this mother and cub, I could show this movie to the passengers.
