I already wrote about the end of the Polar Night, but until today we hadn’t seen the sun actually rise above the mountains. Either the mountains were too high, or it was clouded. Today this changed. While being in port in Tromsø, suddenly a buzz of excitement went through the ship. The sun was visible over the mountains for the first time. For most of the crew, this was the first sunrise of the year, for me the first one in little over two weeks.

Now it’s really the end of the Polar night and the light conditions will change rapidly now. Which means the light will become even more spectacular, which, hopefully, will result in nice pictures.

But at least we can enjoy the sight of the sun again, if only for a few minutes per day.
