VE-day 75

Today we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. So time for an interruption to my Arctic Species series with a post about several memorials to commemorate the soldiers and civilians who died during this gruesome time. I’ve visited several of these monuments and special places and I always try to take a few pictures that do justice to the place, in honour of the people who died in this war. In this post, I share a few with you. Lest we forget.

The Monument to the Heroes of Severomorsk, the defenders of the Arctic – Severomorsk, Russia
Alyosha – Defenders of the Soviet Arctic during the Great Patriotic War – Murmansk, Russia
Neue Wache – Central Memorial of the Federal Republic of Germany for the Victims of War and Dictatorship – Berlin, Germany
Entrance gate to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp – Oranienburg, Germany
Grave with flowers – Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial – Margraten, the Netherlands
